FAQ
How do I book and pay for my session?
To secure your date and time on my schedule, a non-refundable retainer of 30% is required. This amount will be applied towards your session, with the remaining balance due in full by the day of your appointment. If needed, I am happy to discuss the option of payment plans.
For beach sessions, a non-refundable deposit of 50% is due at the time of booking, with the final payment due 24 hours before your beach trip, I am also happy to discuss the option of a payment plan.
Please note that the retainer and final payment may vary for speciality mini-sessions or sessions conducted outside my one-hour travel area.
All sessions are subject to 9.8 % sales tax.
When Should I book?
Booking your session is best done 6 to 8 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and time, especially during summer and fall. For Horse and Rider Sessions and Dog Sessions, availability is strictly from Sunday through Thursday, aligning with peak lighting hours. This means scheduling your shoot just after sunrise or 1 to 2 hours before sunset to capture the most beautiful, natural light.
If you're interested in Equine Portrait Sessions, these can be conducted at nearly any time of day, provided there is access to a fully shaded barn aisle or arena doorway.
For those in need of a Legacy session, I understand the sensitivity and importance of timing. If your horse or dog is facing limited time, please feel free to reach out. I strive to accommodate your needs in this critical period, ensuring we can create lasting memories together.

Where will we have our photo session?
I understand how important it is for your horse to feel comfortable during our sessions, which is why I prefer to conduct equestrian photography right where your horse lives. If you're considering venturing offsite, I would be more than happy to suggest several lovely locations in the Seattle area that could suit your needs. Additionally, I have an equine studio space available in Maple Valley; if you're interested in this option, please be aware that there is an additional fee of $175.
When it comes to capturing beautiful moments with your dog, I can arrange photoshoots in a variety of dog-friendly areas, except for off-leash parks. I have several parks in the Sammamish and Redmond regions that I frequently use and have found to be great settings for dog photography, ensuring a fun experience for both you and your dog.
What are your SET-UP requirements for the Lux and Classic Sessions?
Equine portraits, whether opting for the Lux Session or Classic Session, require a specific set-up to achieve the best results. A fully shaded barn aisle doorway or arena doorway is essential, providing ample space for your horse to naturally stand and turn around. I have a preference for barn aisles with hard flooring, though an arena doorway is also acceptable if it meets the space criteria.
To create the perfect lighting conditions, all lights should be turned off, and it's beneficial to close any additional barn doors to minimize distractions and manage light sources.
I invite you to explore the transformative power of post-production with these before and after images.
*For portraits with a white background, I will use a white backdrop instead of editing the background in post-production later for a more natural look.
What happens if it rains?
I will contact you 24 hours prior to your session if the weather forecast does not appear favorable, as we know the Pacific Northwest can be unpredictable. To accommodate this, I ensure that I have several dates available each month for potential rescheduling.
Do you offer a barn discount?
Absolutely! A barn discount is available when three or more clients book for the same date and location. Travel fees will be shared equally with clients who book for the same date and location as well.
*Barn discounts do not apply to specialized group mini-sessions or beach sessions.
Where Can I order Printed Products?
In your private online gallery, you’ll find a wide selection of Wall Art, Fine Art, and Printed Products in various sizes and styles to help make your space truly special. I understand that investing in art is a meaningful choice, and many of my clients typically spend around $1,500 for Art for their homes, offices, or even barns.

Can I purchase Images without your logo?
Yes!! All low-resolution digital images included with your session have a small watermark logo. However, any high-resolution digital images that you choose to purchase will not have watermarks and come with full printing rights.
How Do I Receive My Digital Images?
You'll receive a download link in your email once everything is ready! I usually take about 2-3 weeks to complete collections after our Zoom or in-person meeting where we go over your images. I love sharing sneak peeks on my social media, and I always check with you first to make sure you're okay with it! If you need your edits done sooner or have an urgent request, just let me know, and I can provide details on rush pricing.
Can I Share the images on social media?
Certainly! You are welcome to share your images on social media. Images must remain unaltered and please provide credit to Jessica Farren Photography.
I want photos without a leash/lead or Halter. Is that Possible?
Through the artistry of post-production, distractions such as leashes and lead ropes can be seamlessly removed from your images. While safety is paramount—requiring that dogs and horses wear a leash or lead rope unless they are in a secure home environment—I ensure that the final products reflect the natural beauty of your animals.
If you'd like your horse photographed without any tack, I use a specialized photographer's halter, the halter is removed in post-production.
I invite you to explore the transformative power of post-production with these before and after images.
What do I wear? How do I prepare?
Once your session is booked, I will send you detailed information on what to wear, and how to prepare both yourself and your horse/dogs to make the most of our fun time and capture a stunning collection of images.
What if my horse does not want to stand still?
It would be a good idea to brush up on your groundwork in the days before our shoot and practice standing still. On the day of the shoot, I always recommend you lightly work your horse before your session.
Do You Travel Outside the Seattle Area?
Certainly! While I am based in Sammamish, WA, I am pleased to offer my photography services across the Pacific Northwest, California, and throughout the USA. I provide complimentary travel for the first hour, with an additional fee of $45 for each subsequent hour of travel.
For sessions taking place outside of Washington State, I assess travel fees on a case-by-case basis to ensure fair pricing.
